Undo and Redo are out !

I am happy its got this step further to a fully operational project management tool. I think the Undo-Redo is pretty neat to do. Especially as this feature will do a tentative undo in a concurrent environment. You will not know wheter you college did not surpress the task you have been working on.

This version also adds Excel exports through Microsofts Com interface.

Everything that is related with creating new database tables. Importing and exporting your work is strongly improved.

If you upgrade don’t forget to run a Verification from the Setting tool.

This relase now opens the way to lots of smaller upgrades which will follow in the months to come.

Thorough Undo / Redo operations:

Initially this was planned to be done way after many other improvements. However one of friends kindly reminded me that real undo / redo capabilities were essential to any modern application.

Obviously the real-time multi-user structure of StakePoint database architecture is not really in line with precise undo operations. Any undo / redo action can only be tentative. No success guaranteed as any user can do something which is in conflict with the temptation to undo.

For the moment the undo mechanisms are written in a local file which is scratched at start-up. We can easily modify this later, either in an appended file spanning multiple sessions, or by storing the total history of undo within the database itself, making it accessible to reconstruct the system. For the moment we decided to keep things simple. It is anyway important that we keep the positive approach against data integrity. A safe verified attempt is better then a simple unverified modification.

All complicated undo / redo actions are now sort of covered, and we are eager to release this with next release ASAP.

Bug fixes

Version 0.542 fixes a number of bugs and notably those within the Gantt GUI. (freezing on double clicks), surpressing of project tree elements and a few others. It might come up in French if that is your native language. We are fixing a number of installer issues and notably those related Vista/7 ACL issues and multiple language support.

New Release

We are happy to announe that a new release is now available for download.

This release contains an endless list of improvements and bug fixes. It is one of the last Aplha releases.

Database:

We added support for both MS SQL-Serveur and Oracle databases.

PDF printing:

You can now create and print your Gantt’s directly in a PDF file.

Import-Export:

A new database independent XML file can now be used to transport the contents of your database from one system to another. This new format now also supports attached files. It is of particular interest to be able to start working from a simple system like Access (as configured by the installer) and take your work later on to Oracle, SQL-Server or PostgreSQL. You can obviously use it to backup your work. This new export/import facility can be used without having exclusive control on running database. Imports can be done exclusive or as and add/merge operation.

Upgrade:

There is an automatic upgrade path for PostgreSQL users where the system will upgrade on top of existing data. If you do not have acces to postgreSQL you should contact us.
